Portsmouth Public Library Internship
The City of Portsmouth has an opportunity for an individual to intern 15-20 hours a week, during the spring and/or summer of 2025, for the Portsmouth Public Library. Hours are flexible and will be discussed during the interview. Pay rate is $15.00 an hour.
The duration of this internship is approximately 6-8 weeks and will accommodate school schedule if needed.

NATURE OF WORK.
Summer intern will actively participate in processing the Henry Clay Barnabee collection. This will entail building archival boxes to size as needed and rehousing these boxes with appropriate packaging and labeling. The intern will also have the opportunity to attend reference meetings and other library-wide meetings and participate in Project management discussions for future Barnabee collection projects.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the direction of the Reference Librarian and Library Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1.Build archival boxes to size as needed and rehousing boxes with appropriate packaging and labeling.
2. Attend reference meetings and other library-wide meetings.
3. Participate in project management discussions for future Barnabee collection projects.
4. Update and expand aid.
5. Scanning materials and metadata into the Portsmouth Exhibits website.
6. Performs other related duties as required.

ENVIRONMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT
Works in library environments which are subject to uncomfortably warm or cool temperatures. Continuous intellectual effort is required to maintain current knowledge of library resources, services and practices. The work requires lifting print and other materials, office equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds and being able to carry a reasonable quantity of materials from places where they are stored to places where they may be used.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Students currently enrolled in a library science, art, history, theater, music, humanities or related degree.
