Food Science Co-Op/Intern

Overview 

Are you looking to make a difference in the world? Tender is revolutionizing the food industry by solving a major global challenge: how to make meat production ethical and sustainable. Going beyond the existing plant-based burgers, we are developing alternative meat whole-cuts – think steaks and chicken breasts – using innovations in manufacturing, materials science, and tissue engineering. This will transform how the world consumes meat and protein. Spun out of Harvard University in 2020, we are actively building our core team. 

We are hiring a Food Science Co-Op/Intern to help manufacture our next generation plant-based meat alternatives. You will work closely with our production team to create a variety of products to fulfill our massively growing internal and external demand. You will also assist in developing processes and technologies to scale new plant-based meat prototypes. 

Responsibilities 

• Planning bench top experiments to verify technical hypothesis and analyzing results to provide next actions to reach targets for novel plant-based meats. 
• Formulating product recipes with appropriate ingredients and proposing proper production process conditions. 
• Documenting required technical information for product assessment in the company database, such as ingredients statements, cooking instructions, serving suggestions and nutritional fact panels. 
• Establishing post processing manufacturing processes and packaging and conducting QA and sensory to ensure that newly developed products meet customer needs and company standards. 
• Supporting the team throughout the product launch cycle. 

About You 

• You have previous experience in food manufacturing/food science, from industry work and/or education. 
• You enjoy cooking and can formulate creative ways to integrate our product into recipes. 
• You are pro-active, a self-starter and motivated to find solutions. 
• You value teamwork but can independently manage project work. 
• You demonstrate curiosity and creative problem-solving skills.
• You are excited about joining an early-stage food technology startup, where you will have a dynamic role and will work autonomously on high-impact projects.
