YouthWorks(YW) Curriculum and Content Development Support Intern (Hybrid)

Position Title: YouthWorks(YW) Curriculum and Content Development Support Intern (Hybrid)
Reports to: Associate Director of YouthWorks
Intern:20 hours per week (M-F June 5th - August 11th, 2023)
Starting Salary :$18.00 per hour

Who We Are: Commonwealth Corporation is a quasi-public workforce development agency that strengthens the skills of Massachusetts youth and adults by investing in innovative partnerships with industry, education, and workforce organizations. Our primary goals are:

Program: Commonwealth Corporation has a strong history of designing, implementing, and managing a range of programming and initiatives that address the needs of youth and young adults who are among our more vulnerable populations. Using evidence-based practices and regional sector partnerships to address social and workforce issues,
CommCorp manages grant funds, designs, and supports the implementation of programming for the state's large-scale subsidized career development and youth employment initiative, YouthWorks, serving approximately 5000 young people each year. CommCorp has created a well-recognized, evidence-based career exploration and work readiness curriculum and initiative called Signal Success that is being implemented in YouthWorks, federally funded WIOA programs, school districts, the states Safe and Successful Youth Initiative, and
industry-based programs. Beyond these implementations, CommCorp is engaged in ongoing work to support other career development efforts and Signal Success expansion in other communities and states across the US.

Position Description

Commonwealth Corporation is looking for a dynamic, energetic intern who is eager to learn about our organization and YouthWorks department.
The YW Curriculum & Content Development Support Intern will support the design and development of the program's signature Signal Success curriculum and other program-related training initiatives. You will be brought up to speed and work closely with the YouthWorks Training and Development team supporting the creation of curriculum and other training and marketing materials.
This position is ideal for an individual with strong writing and communication skills and great attention to detail. Also, for someone who is skilled at identifying and proposing creative and innovative ideas to enhance curriculum and training materials.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications and training development while gaining experience with a well-known community-based organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Learn about Commonwealth Corporation and the Youthworks program
  • Research proven practices and assist with creating curriculum resources for supporting effective and engaging delivery of career and work readiness content to teens and young adults. Sample topics include soft skills (i.e., communication, collaboration, initiative, etc.,) career awareness and exploration, and job search and acquisition skills
  • Review and revise the curriculum content
  • Assist with creating curriculum and training materials
  • Collaborate with Training and Development team members and provide support as needed
  • Support the planning of and attend Career Chats
  • Attend and participate in YouthWorks events as requested
  • Support the YouthWorks team with additional projects and tasks assigned relating to programming, if needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with youth workforce development/school-to-career initiatives and non-profit or public program management
  • Understanding of instructional design, curriculum development, and training tools
  • Experience developing and delivering curriculum to youth/young adults and/or staff working with youth/young adults
  • Ability to work well independently and in collaboration with a team including soliciting and providing feedback on project assignments and deliverables
  • Ability to be resourceful, self-motivated, and to independently prioritize workload with a high degree of initiative
  • Be a strong team player, able to foster positive and productive relationships
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Knowledgeable of the latest Marketing trends and techniques

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A YouthWorks alum, college student, or recent college graduate
  • Eager to learn and work with various departments in the organization
  • Knowledgeable in curriculum writing and communications
  • Experience in workforce development
  • Experience coaching and/or training student and young adult learners, in in-person and virtual settings
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including students and young adults and serving people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • A creative, innovative, and strategic mindset
  • Knowledgeable in Marketing a plus
  • Must also be comfortable working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Have a valid driver's license and access to a car
