Outreach Support for Scientific Computing Visualization Lab

The Scientific Computing and Visualization Team is looking for a highly motivated person to help with the outreach elements of the Scientific Computing and Visualization Team at the NASA Glenn Research Center. The Team does exciting work in the areas of scientific computing, data science, and visualization. There are tremendous opportunities to use content from these work areas to share with the public and make the public aware of the work the team does and the facilities available. The selected student would work with the Team on Web content creation including writing and imagery for the Team’s Web site, YouTube channel, and Twitter account, among others. In particular, the Team will need someone to develop material to create awareness about the Team’s new CAVE™ virtual reality environment. The student will also be involved in planning and executing tours and outreach events. This includes adding to the team's ability to do virtual events. The intern will also lead the effort to have the GVIS Lab participate in NASA Glenn's 80th anniversary celebration.

This project will support Cross Cutting work since the Lab being supported supports all the Core Competencies at the Center: Aircraft Propulsion, Communications Technology and Development, Space Propulsion and Cryogenic Fluids Management, Power, Energy, Storage, and Conversion, Materials and Structures for Extreme Environments, Physical Sciences and Biomedical Technologies.

The intern will have opportunities to propose new ideas to help with communications and outreach efforts.

This internship is cross-cutting as data science it is a tool used across all Mission Directorates and Core Competencies at NASA Glenn: Aircraft Propulsion, Communications Technology and Development, Space Propulsion and Cryogenic Fluids Management, Power, Energy, Storage, and Conversion, Materials and Structures for Extreme Environments, Physical Sciences and Biomedical Technologies.

The student should have strong skills in Web page design, and image and video editing. Experience with Wordpress is a plus.

The student should have skills in using social media, in particular Twitter and YouTube. Having skills in graphic design is essential. Knowledge or interest in NASA, space, and technology will be a significant factor in choosing a student. Excellent writing skills are needed.

The student should have excellent creative writing skills and some experience in marketing services. Interest in NASA is important.

Eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Full-time students (high school through graduate)
  • Enrollment in a degree granting institution
  • 16 years of age at the time of application (no exceptions)
