Advanced Carbon Internship - Cabot Corporation

Role
Provide experimental support and product characterization analysis for key projects within the Advanced Carbons Group. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with the applications development teams to produce carbon nanostructure (CNS) based compounds and perform analysis in high value applications to help assess performance. Candidate will also provide key support to customers through sample preparation and shipment and perform root cause analysis to solve technical issues. This is a great opportunity for a qualified college or graduate student to gain industrial experience and make a real contribution in a short period. Due to the technical nature of the work involved, requires a relatively strong technical background, preferably a materials or chemical engineering student with great laboratory skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assists in the planning and execution of R&D trials to develop application knowledge of CNS in plastics, rubber, and/or other systems.
  • Assists in the characterization of the properties of compounds with CNS through various analytical techniques.
  • Analysis of experimental design results and report results in an organized format.
  • Provide customer support through sample preparation and shipment.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of customer complaints through sample property testing and characterization.
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in undergraduate and/or graduate program
  • University level laboratory experience
  • Experience writing formal laboratory reports
  • Have strong willingness to learn new things
  • Strong focus on safety, basic chemical safety training experience preferred
  • Materials Engineering, plastics, or chemical coursework
  • Computer skills (MS-Excel, Powerpoint)
  • General mechanical aptitude
