OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Climate Resilience Intern is a seasonal internship position based in Massachusetts. The Intern will be part of a diverse program implementation team supporting community-centered climate resilience and clean energy initiatives in Environmental Justice communities.
Reporting to the Climate Resilience Manager, the Intern will collaborate closely with program managers, community partners, and other ECC staff. This position will provide hands-on programmatic, research, evaluation, outreach, and communications support across active initiatives. Responsibilities may include supporting in-person and virtual events, conducting research and program evaluation activities, engaging with community members and partners, and contributing to communications and storytelling efforts.
Location: Greater Boston (Hybrid).
This position requires participation in community-based events and activities, which may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends. Reliable internet access and the ability to travel within the Greater Boston area are required.
Job Type: Internship, seasonal. Non-Exempt.
Part-Time (up to 20 hours per week)
Salary: $18-$22 per hour, depending on experience.
Internship dates: September – December 2026
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and Evaluation
Conduct background research to support program activities, grant reporting, and the development of a community-led climate resilience framework.
Research best practices related to climate resilience, healthy homes, indoor air quality, and energy affordability to inform program planning and strategy.
Synthesize research findings into clear, accessible summaries and memoranda for use by ECC staff and community partners.
Assist in developing pre- and post-program surveys to gather participant feedback and measure program experience and outcomes.
Compile lessons learned across active programs to support organizational learning, continuous improvement, and program replication.
Support data entry and tracking of program participation, outputs, and deliverables across multiple active grants.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communications
Support outreach and engagement with community organizations, residents, and program partners to inform program design, strengthen relationships, and support coalition-building efforts.
Assist with preparation of meeting materials, agendas, and follow-up notes.
Support the development of outreach materials, including flyers, social media content, and email templates, using tools such as Canva.
Draft written content as needed, including program updates, event recaps, and newsletter features for ECC Northeast and partners and allies.
Support direct community outreach activities, including staffing information tables at community events and distributing program materials.
Event Planning and Implementation
Support the planning and implementation of community workshops, resident training sessions, and other program-related events.
Assist with event logistics, materials preparation, participant coordination, and on-site event support.
Support coordination and communication with community-based organization partners, government agencies, local nonprofits, and other stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Undergraduate Junior/Senior, recent graduate, or current graduate student pursuing environmental science, public health, policy, urban planning, communications, or a related field.
Interest or experience in community engagement, particularly with immigrant, low-income, and Environmental Justice communities.
Ability to support interviews, community conversations, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, with experience developing outreach materials for diverse audiences.
Familiar with graphic design tools such as Canva and Microsoft Suite applications.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Commitment to advancing racial, environmental and social equity.
Preferred
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Experience with research, data synthesis, or program evaluation preferred.
