OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The Communications and Outreach Intern (Intern) is a fall internship position based in Massachusetts. This role will support ECC’s Economic Inclusion portfolio, which advances equitable access to opportunities in the green economy.

Reporting to the Economic Inclusion Manager, the Intern will collaborate closely with program staff and partners to support communications, outreach, and program activities across the Northeast region. The intern will assist with developing program materials, social media outreach, and digital communications, conducting research, and contributing to stakeholder engagement efforts. The Intern will also provide administrative and programmatic support to advance ECC’s economic inclusion initiatives, including assisting with partnership engagement, program coordination, and other activities that support the success of ECC’s programs.

Location: Greater Boston, MA (Hybrid).

This position requires participation in community-based events and activities, which may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends. Reliable internet access and the ability to travel within the Greater Boston area are required.

Job Type: Internship, Seasonal. Non-Exempt; Part-Time (up to 20 hours per week).

Salary: $18 - $22 per hour, depending on experience.

Duration of Internship: September - December 2026

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create branded program materials (e.g., presentations, program flyers, email templates and other outreach materials) to support economic inclusion training and programming.
  • Support the development of quarterly regional newsletter and other communications for ECC Northeast allies, partners, and program alumni.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread written communications, including blog posts, newsletters, press releases, and website content.
  • Assist with developing, scheduling, and maintaining content for social media platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Support storytelling initiatives by collecting quotes, testimonials, photos, and success stories from staff, partners, and community members.
  • Assist with event promotion, registration coordination, and digital engagement activities before, during and after program events.
  • Attend program events and capture content that highlights program impact and aligns with ECC’s mission and values.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas related to storytelling, community engagement, and communications initiatives.
  • Provide administrative and programmatic support for economic inclusion initiatives, including preparing meeting agendas, taking notes, organizing documents, and tracking project activities.
  • Conduct research on clean energy, workforce development, and economic inclusion topics to support program development, communications, and partnership efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Undergraduate Junior/Senior, recent graduate, or current graduate student pursuing environmental science, policy, communications, education, urban planning, or a related field.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in communications, marketing, and outreach to diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools, such as Canva, to support the development of outreach and communications materials.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube) and an interest in digital communications strategies and tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel.
  • Strong written, verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to advancing racial and social equity through community-centered work.
